Welcome to Roots of Motive Power!
Roots of Motive Power is an all-volunteer organization founded in 1982 to preserve and restore steam- and diesel-powered equipment used in the California north coast logging industry from the 1850s to the present. If you are new to this site you might like to start by looking at pictures of the equipment in our collection. You may do so by moving your mouse pointer to the "Equipment" entry in the menu bar at the top of this page and selecting one of the choices.
